A native of Va., Griffin (ca. 1799-d. between 1842 and 1845) served as Judge of the Supreme Court of the Territory of Mich.(SCM), 1805-1823, and earlier as Judge of Ind. Territory. From Mass., Witherell served as judge of the SCM, 1808-1828. Witherell (June 16, 1759-Jan. 9, 1838) rose to the rank of Adj. in a Mass. regiment during the Revolutionary War. L.F. Seymour of Farwell (Mich.) won the bid to construct a gravel road, located mostly in Ionia County and a bit of Kent County (Mich.). Seymour and Frank F. Rogers, the then State Highway Commissioner, signed the contract on Oct. 1, 1920. Seymour later sued for $10,663.21, his unpaid balance. He was eventually paid. Augustus B. Woodward was the dominant figure in the government of Michigan Territory prior to 1812. Educated at Columbia University and Virginia, by 1797 he was buying property in Washington, D.C. Woodward came to Detroit shortly after the devastating fire of 1805 and was appointed chief of the Michigan Territory's first three judges.
